Tips to Prepare for a Heat Pump Installation

If you’re having a new heat pump installed in your home, you’re probably a mix of both excited and nervous. After all, upgrading to a new HVAC system is a big project. The good news is that our team is here to help you every step of the way.

That starts with offering you some tips on how to prepare ahead of your heat pump installation in Ellensburg, WA. Keep reading to learn about ways to prepare your home and your family for a new heat pump. The steps you take now will make a huge difference in the process and effectiveness of our work on the day of installation.

Know the Plan

Before we ever schedule you for an installation, we will visit your home and complete an assessment of your current system. We will also talk to you about what needs to be done when installing your new unit. For example, we may need to replace the concrete foundation under your outdoor unit or the base that your indoor unit sits on.

Depending on what type of air conditioner you are upgrading to, there may be other steps we need to take such as adjusting the existing electrical and refrigerant line setup. For example, if you are switching to a ductless model then you can repurpose the area that previously held the indoor unit.

With a ductless heat pump installation, you also need to make space in each room where a unit is getting installed. When you understand the plan ahead of time, you will know exactly what to expect on installation day.

Create Workspace

We know that room around your home can be tight depending on where the indoor portion of your air conditioner is located. Anything you can do to help us by clearing out the space around the air conditioner will help. For example, you can move furniture around to clear a wider pathway for our team and remove miscellaneous items from around the work area.

This includes creating a pathway from your front door to the indoor portion of your air conditioning unit. Plus, we need space to work outside. This is usually less of an issue, but if you do have any yard decorations or furniture near the outdoor unit, go ahead and move those out of the way as well.

Make Plans for Pets and Children

It is completely natural for children and pets to be interested in a project like air conditioning installation. However, it’s not a safe environment for them to be in, even if they are supervised. If you are able to, we recommend keeping children and pets in a separate room or area of the home away from where we are working.

When that isn’t possible, ask a friend or family member if they can keep your kids or pets for the day while your AC installation is being completed. This will help ensure that everyone is safe and that the installation process can go smoother.
